The Scots know how to welcome and celebrate. I love seeing all these generations come together for a Ceilidh, a traditional Scottish celebration.
Ceilidh is a very lively tradition in Scotland. Every Tuesday, Edinburgh’s Ceilidh Club hosts an evening at the Summerhall. The word Ceilidh is of Gaelic origin and means « gathering » or « celebration ».
Even me as a proper Scot, I’m not a good dancer at all and didn’t how to dance the Scottish dances very well before going, but that’s not a problem. Experienced dancers are there to show me the steps. In addition, as they are group dances, I look at my neighbours to find out how to go about! To accompany the dancers, there is always a traditional music band. The instruments may vary, but tonight there is a violin, a guitar and an accordion. It’s very nice. Even if you are not scot, you will feel this way when dancing with everyone!
